Hello,
My wife's great grandfather lived in Newton in the 1880's. His
occupation was chief draughtsman -engineering. He died in 1886 just as
his company was going to send him to India. Is there anyway of finding
out if he worked for Vulcan.
Apparently he designed a special step for the royal train as the then
Princess Alexandra had a bad limp and found it difficult to get on or
off the carriage.

Thanks

Steve Kirby

Hello Steve,

My Great Grandfather George Anders, described in the census as "erector of
engines" went to India with the first six locos from the Vulcan.
I also would like to know if there are still records available.

Regards,

John

John,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you as I only check this group
every blue moon.

Anyway 1880 is a long way back and I do not have much in the way of
staff records other than the group photo's with names underneath and
the vulcan magazines!

When english electric took over in the mid 1960's a large amount of
records were deposited at liverpool museum where unfortunately a lot
of the photographic material was water damaged. I think the paper
records fared better and the following link to the museum website sort
of describes what they have and how to arrange viewing.
