I'm wondering if anyone can help me...My dad served a seven year
apprenticeship at Vulcan Foundry as a maintenence fitter, His name was
Micheal peter smith ( 1933 - 2010 ).
Sadly, my dad passed away last week. We are desperatley seeking
information on an accident that occured where a woman was trapped by
her neck in an overhead crane, My dad bravely climbed up the crane and
managed to hold her weight until help arrived and the power supply was
cut off.
The story of this accident was printed in the paper and up until
recently this cutting was in our hands, I cant seem to locate it now
and am desperate for any details that anyone would still have.
His funeral is to take place on 21st april and we would dearly love to
tell of this act of bravery at his funeral. We believe he worked there
from roughly 1857 but this is only an estimate. He was sometimes known
as Mick but some people called him Peter.
Please can people ask around their relatives if anyone can remember
this accident.
We as a family will greatly appreciate anybody's input.
Regards
Maxine Smith
