VUARC members,

If you plan to take the Technician Class exam next Saturday, please see the information below. You need to register in advance in order to take the exam.

INFORMATION FOR EXAM

ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED: You must either email Monvel Maskew (K9FQ) at K9F...@gmail.com or text him at (615) 268-0266 by this Friday to reserve a spot in the exam. Before you do so, make sure to obtain your FRN and have it available.

Test time: Saturday, Sept. 14, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Please arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to check in.

Test location: Crieve Hall Church of Christ, 4806 Trousdale Drive

What to bring:
- $15 cash, check, or money order (no credit cards) payable to the VEC team administering the exam
- driver's license, passport, or Commodore Card (i.e. photo identification)
- FRN (Federal Registration Number) [more info below]
- #2 pencils and erasers
- a scientific calculator (laptop and tablet computers are not allowed - you can’t bring anything that can store images or equations, and you can’t use a calculator app on your smartphone or iPad)

You MUST obtain an FRN number from the FCC before taking the exam.
1. Get your FRN before you contact K9FQ to register for the exam (see above).
2. Go to the FCC CORES site at https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do and click the yellow "Register" button. You're registering as an individual.
3. A valid email address is mandatory on the application form to receive FCC correspondence, including the official copy of your Amateur Radio license.

5. Be prepared to provide your social security number (SSN) to complete your FRN registration.
6. Print out the form showing your new FRN number and bring that page with you on Saturday.
7. After you pass the exam, the Volunteer Examiner Coordinator will submit your information to the FCC for processing. Once the FCC processes your application, you will receive a bill via email to pay the $35 amateur license fee online.
