Greetings Ice Hounds,
Just got back from a good skate on GRR with Colin Swanson. We skated about 5 miles but if time allows one could skate much more than that. The best ice was in a straight line from the F&W ramp to the northern terminus of the east section of the Res and along
the eastern shoreline of the main body of the Res both north and south of the big island. Sorry, I dont have a mapping app to show an exact route.
Without a lot of snow this will be very pleasant and safe skating tomorrow as well. The thinnest areas I found were still 2+ inches and required 4-5 good pokes. Smaller bays and inlets were thicker though we didnt go too far into any marshy areas. There
are some tripping hazards where cracks/plates let water in and it refroze into shell ice. But they were all easily crossable with care and have maintained safe thicknesses. Still, skate with care. All in all, a great skate with zero human interruptions
or noise and a lot of quiet nature. Highly recommended. Pics to follow.
Happy Skating.
