Good morning all, after dropping the kid off at field school, I took a quick jaunt to Chi and my adopted body of water, Mallett's Bay.
From the Fishing access, Spaulding Bay is covered in ~200 yards of snow, then a short section of black ice and the rest of the bay is steaming in the sun. It will be losing a lot of energy today, and coupled with some snow and low temperatures, I'm holding out hope that the inner bay will be skatable in December.
We do have to bear in mind Jamie's point about the Fall overturn, however since the broad lake is nearly there (
see link), I think it is reasonable to expect Mallett's bay has passed the 4c mark that results in the overturn. Chi and I will keep an eye out and when things look promising, we'll do a full-gear scout to see what we can see. Best guess is this weekend or next monday. I'll also be keeping an eye on the satellite and hope that we get a clear shot of Lake Champlain today.
Stay tuned!
