At least 3 of us will make our 1st foray to Martins Pond (85 acres) in Peacham at 11am today. I call Martins the sister of Fosters). It looked amazing (surface) from the air. (Cessna taildragger) Unknown thickness.

Five of us enjoyed our first day at Martins. 1-3/4 to 2-1/2 inches of black ice on 98% that we skated. The other 2% was the last to snap shut and is 1-1/4 thick near the middle of the pond…easy to spot…it is rimmed by a 2-foot ring of smooth frozen grey.
The entire surface is so smooth as to whisper “Sharpen your blades lately?”
