Went again and met up with some other skaters on the ice. No pictures or track at this time.

Ice was mostly organs peel and better but lots of places where you had to cross snow, bumpy ice, etc. skiing out is nice.

Straight out from the first beach there is open water as well as an open lead that goes up to Colchester point. There was a wide pair? Of plates that allowed us to cross this area.

Some healed cracks and other thin areas that benefited from careful ice reading.

The ice is also changing. Candling is the technical term and here is one post I found:

My understanding is that as the sun hits, and the warm days, this ice will become weaker.

No perceptible wind, and forecast was for 1-3 mph but it is always more on the lake. Some cracks were opening up, but from what we could tell the plate was being pushed up against ice to the south and wasn’t going anywhere.

We turned back around S Hero where there is 1+ mile of open water.

Today was spectacular on the Broad lake! I have not had the chance to skate this section before, and it was probably my favorite skate of the year. The approach to skatable ice from Starr Farm beach was aided by skis, but would have been a reasonable walk (with spikes). I am hoping for a satellite image from today, and will attempt to overlay my track if/when we get it. There is a bit of routefinding initially, as there are two sections of open water off of Starr Farm that are separated by supportable ice.

In the mean time, enjoy some pictures/videos from today.

And here is the track overlayed on yesterday's satellite!
