Thanks to the efforts of Chi ,Rob ,kitty kate and SK02 we had a great event last night, it was a packed house in Montpelier for a presentation on big lake ice skating. I was really happy with the high caliber of questions and the amount of information we were able to cover. We wrapped up the evening with some sharing about rescue leadership and decision making. This was an event geared towards folks who were at least at intermediate Skating level in terms of ice
reading and experience. It was really nice to have a group that came in with so much knowledge allowing us to cover some of the more complicated topics that are involved in understanding The powerful and dynamic world of big lake ice.
My hope is that this can provide a model for us all to continue high-level community driven education. It was the first time for me, teaching a Skating related class that was not on Ice. I think there are quite a few other topics that could be really effective in this format. There is obviously a big demand for on ice reading and safety classes taught on ice but they tend to be hard to schedule because of our ever-changing weather conditions. So I think this model is really good for The teaching and learning of all of the topics that we can effectively do in an off ice setting.
I would be curious to hear from other folks about other topics they think would be interesting to have presented in a classroom style session.
Happy skating Evan
