I skated for a few hours at Willoughby this morning, putting in at Devils rock which is about a mile up from the south end and climbing down the bank. There were lanes and sections of open ice in this part of the lake between the cliffs. The surface was a crunchy orange peel texture with some three-dimensional fully saturated drifts that were easy to skate over. As well as some snow, drifts, and Styrofoam drifts that I avoided . not worth traveling any distance for unless you really want to skate this lake. Willoughby was up to its old tricks, blue skies as I was driving up and pretty calm as I put on the ice with the snow squall building with wind almost immediately.
