I am hoping to skate the Inland Sea with others on Saturday January 3rd. I could be to the Apple Island Marina around 9:30 (coming from SE VT, if anyone else wants to carpool).
I did about 34 miles on this section last winter and am excited to get back on it.

I intend to be there tomorrow, exact details TBD, but currently thinking about taking advantage of the mild NW wind and doing a downwind run from Hero's Welcome to Apple Island (~12 miles) starting around 10 am.

If others are interested, we could organize a car shuttle.

I'm up for the downwinder from Hero's Welcome to Apple Island starting around 9:30-10.  Hoping to leave my car at Apple Island and get a ride to Hero's welcome to get on the ice.
Let me know when your details come together.

Hoping to connect,
Elizabeth (coming from Westport, NY)

I would like to join this trip as well. But I've never skated on Lake Champlain before (or any lake this large). I have nordic blades, ice claws, ice poles, and a throw rope. I'll also have a change of clothes in a dry bag. Do people feel comfortable if I join this trip, realizing that I'll need a bit of extra teaching and guidance around pressure ridges, etc?

I could meet at Apple Island or at Hero's Welcome. I'm coming from Montpelier and would also be happy to join a carpool with Mike if he comes north on 89.

My number is 802-505-3558 if texting works better. Thank you!
Heather

To summarize a few off-forum conversations I've had with a few folks this evening:

There are some people who hope to start at Apple Island Marina and do a longer round-trip skate (likely upwind first, then returning downwind). It sounds like Mike is leading this up, and starting at 9:30. Maybe Tuk too.

There are others (Elizabeth, Robert, and myself, maybe others too...) who hope to meet at Apple Island Marina, carpool to Hero's Welcome, then skate one-way from Hero's Welcome to back to Apple Island Marina, then shuttle the Hero's Welcome person back their car. Can this carpool/shuttle group also meet at Apple Island Marina at 9:30? (Robert, does that work for you? A 9:30 carpool from Apple Island Marina might mean skating out of Hero's Welcome around 10, which is what Robert's original proposal mentioned).

Thoughts or counter-proposals?

Thanks!
Heather

I am hoping to be able to get up to the Apple Island launch point tomorrow morning, but probably not until 10. There is apparently a small group starting out from there. I have much to do, and so would not be able to do a long day skate.

I'd love to tag along with one of these groups if y'all will have me.  I'm relatively new to nordic skating — have all the gear (including self- and companion-rescue stuff), and am a fairly strong skater, but lack experience skating wild ice on big bodies of water, and would love to hitch my wagon to an experienced group in hopes of observing and absorbing some good practices, especially in the way of recognizing changing ice, negotiating pressure ridges, etc.  I'll try to be at Apple Island Marina at 9:30 in hopes of sync'ing up with some of you.

Cheers,
Grayson
