Hi Everybody,
Blaine and I had a great skate on Mollys Falls Pond today. There were some challenging sections of snow-covered rough ice, some 1-poke ice that was easy to see and stay off of, and a light wind so that it wasn't bad going into it but was enough to make it pretty fast going with it. You had to zig-zag down the lake going from side to side to keep on the smoother ice, which was thick enough that 4 pokes wouldn't go through, or to keep away from some open water near some shores. Well worth the trip from Burlington. We got two laps in for 12 miles total.
It was a surprise that the parking area by the pond wasn't plowed, though. Luckily, there is a plowed turn-off just east of the entrance, and you could park there. You could've made it down to the pond in a truck, but not a car.
As we were almost to the end of our skate we met Arn and talked with him for a bit, and then another skater from Burlington (Cooper? Colin? Sorry...) who had skated at Wrightsville Reservoir (Off of Route 12, north of Montpelier, Vermont) and said it was pretty rough. When we got back to our car, there were two other skaters getting ready to head out also.
Thanks for the reports on this from Evan and Phyl!
