There’s a lot going on right now with Lake Champlain.
Much of the newer ice in the broad lake area is quite unstable.
There is Very good ice, (10-15 sq miles), in NorthWest bay, off Button Bay, Vt, best accessed from the NYS public Boat launch in Westport, NY, (unless you have a friend who has lake front in Vt)
There is now also amazing ice North of Split Rock, NY.
The whole area between Essex, NY and Charlotte, VT, heading North, beyond the Boquet River has countless miles of black ice. As you get closer to the Broad Lake between Willsboro Point and Burlington the ice conditions are suspect and potentially quite hazardous.
Access is at the now closed ferry dock in Essex, NY, with parking right across the street or from the Charlotte beach (not sure about parking there).

Remember that all ice is potentially unsafe and subject to rapid change due to sun, wind and other factors. Always have an exit strategy when out on big ice. Travel together and with safety equipment. Have fun.
