I just got word that not only is tomorrow opening day at the Lake Placid speedskating oval, it’s FREE! Parking is not free, so look for the stupid kiosks.
They allow Nordic blades during speed sessions not public sessions. If you aren’t fast that is ok, just hold your course within the lane you are skating, and look over your shoulder before changing lanes or crossing lanes to exit the ice. Speedskates are very quiet. You only hear the click of the blade as it comes back into place. You will not hear the blades on the ice. Since it is free, and opening day there should be many people not moving quickly.
Since there is no natural ice near us, here in Vermont, this seems like a nice option.
