Just some facts to get the info out quickly.

We did an unplanned tour on the new plates east of Isle Lamotte today. We left the Dillenbeck public access for the "gut" and headed south with intentions to cross over to the inland sea at carrie bay. I couldn't help myself and climbed to the top of an old rail bed for a peak at the other side and the rest is history. If you go bring microspikes. There's a fair amount of rubble to cross to get onto the new ice. I would call the conditions spicy 2 out of 3 because of the numerous holes with only a skim of ice begging for a skater to come swim. Black ice in full sun was expanding like crazy. Just about every poke sent cracks off in multiple directions. On the way home Tom and I did some additional scouting. There are a couple of places NY skaters could access the ice. Monty bay would be the best. The west side of Isle Lamotte appears to be the same. It may take a little work crossing rubble and rough ice but I think it's possible to go all the way around the island. Others can add to this. We ran into a guy fishing through a hole in the floor of his car. Wild day!

Best,

Kevin

First I thought it was an abandoned car. Then on the other side was this totally cool dude in a T-shirt! Americans are a very innovative bunch, but Vermonters are geniuses! Not sure if he caught anything; not sure if it mattered, though!

I'm very sorry that I was unable to post last night due to a 70th birthday party (not mine!) and extreme fatigue.  For those of you going out today, here's a link to a video that shows some of the fantastic conditions between Isle La Motte and the Alburg Peninsula.  Check out the track Kevin sent.  This video was shot at the northerly portion of the track off of "The Marsh".  The best, although perhaps least adventurous, access is via Holcomb fishing access.  I hope it's the same today.  Get it while you can.  Here's the link:  https://youtu.be/rqwhT6SAOwU.     More videos to follow when I get a chance.
Respectfully submitted,
Dan

***Please note Kevin’s mention of careful
Scouting!
It really was a beautiful day to skate with friends. That said, There was lots of open water and just skimmed over places. They can be very deceptive.  There were more than a few times when we joked, “water to the left and water to the right”.
That said, jeez, there is just so much good ice out there.  Where the heck have all the scouts been this past week?!
And maybe now Port Henry and Lake George!!👍
