Diana, Jay and I drove from the Burlington area to skate Keiser Pond today based on Evan's report from yesterday, and it was as nice as Evan described it. Thanks for scouting it, Evan!!
We also saw some other familiar faces and so it was a great start to the season for us. Although the temps crept up above freezing in the early afternoon, the sun never came out fully and so we skated until 2pm or so. We only stopped because we were tired, the ice was still great. The ice was making a lot of noise, though.
There were lots of frozen bird tracks (assuming geese) near some open water on the west side, and the northwest end had open water where the stream comes in along with lots more frozen bird tracks around it. The dam on the east end had just a bit of water around it. The rest of the pond was fairly smooth gray ice, lots of frozen drain holes and water along the shoreline in lots of places.
I just want to mention again how much the skaters in the Burlington area rely on and appreciate the scouting reports by people like Evan. It's a long drive to all of these early season skates for us, but with the reports, we know that the drive will be worth it.
