Symes pond was beautiful this morning The ice was generally 2 inches of slightly gray ice, not orange peel, but not perfectly smooth. It was definitely the best ice I’ve skated so far. The ice ranged from one and three-quarter inch in noticeably darker spots to 2 1/4 inches. There there are also some large and some small sections of black ice that are not supportable. Unfortunately, I think there are only a couple hours left to skate this pond, and I would only recommend it for those who are willing to skate on thin ice, as the sun is starting to hit the ice now and it iscracking quite a bit. This pond will be a good one to keep an eye on as being lower elevation than all of the other ponds we have been able to skate thus far it is most likely to end up as rain at the end of the next storm and possibly resurface for this coming week.
