I just drove through Fort Ann and White Hall. First stop was where route 149 meets route four and "Empire State Trail" crosses the canal. There was approximately an inch of snow, people had been sledding and ice fishing. The ice was too thick to get through with my poles. I then continued north and drove by Lock # 11 by the prison. There was ice with no snow. About half a mile north of lock #11 I went a few feet onto the ice, it took ten hard pokes with my poles to get through the ice, I repeated the test twice more each time needing approximately 10 pokes. I then drove to lock 12 and there was open water.
I'm currently in Charlotte and was planning on heading to Lake Placid this evening but would consider staying in the area if there were people to skate with tomorrow.
