I understand Laura’s & Dr Jo’s take, but I thought that Moore was decent if you put in at Pattenville, though the area that is skatable is somewhat limited. There are some nice relatively smooth areas with dark grey (almost black) ice, but there are also big patches of ice with a crust. Mostly those are skateable or you need to double pole. All in all it is possible to find a path of around shell ice and crust (see screenshot), with the nicest ice in the areas marked 1 and 7. The main hazards are close to our track between areas 2 and 3 where there is some 1-poke ice, though pretty visible from big chunks of ice sticking above the surface.  Probably there is better skating elsewhere, but if you’re close to Moore, I thought it was decent skating. We skated 8 miles (Ok, skated 7 and poled 1). Cheers, Erzo

Hello--

In my humble opinion, Moore Reservoir is bad for skating.  There are a few dark skateable patches but otherwise shell ice, bumpy and snow.

For those on skis,  the Pattenville launch is accessible without a plank.  Wear microspikes to climb down the ice embankment.
