I took a lap around Lake Fairlee this morning. The temp was 12 degrees F. Ice 2”-3” thick with 1” of snow on top. The lake is criss-crossed with wet cracks that melted out the snow and heeled over to hard gray ice. Gray ice lanes are 2’ to 8’ wide. The edges of the lanes have a foot of grabby shell ice, making it difficult to enter/exit the lanes. The snow covered ice is also skateable, but requires slow speed when crossing the lanes. I would rate the ice quality at 3-4 and would not recommend traveling any distance to skate on it unless you are experiencing severe ice withdrawal symptoms.
Stay safe and Happy Holidays to you all,
