We got out for a quick afternoon skate on Harvey’s Lake in Barnet, Vermont. The ice conditions were similar to what Diana reported a couple days ago, though I assume they were a bit smoother with a few days of wind . The lake had some snow drifts that were widely spaced apart in some sections with the ice being totally clear. In other sections, the snow drifts were closer but thin enough you could skate right through them. In sections that have not been affected by the wind, the snow on the ice surface had turned to half slush in the sun, and it was easy to skate through that and quite pleasant. A lot of this partially melted slush will
probably refreeze into something may be a little bumpy in some spots may be smoother and others. We are not projected to get much precipitation tonight, so it is quite possible that this lake could be good to skate tomorrow, although I would not travel far for it without hearing a report. I have included pictures of the parts of the ice that were blown Clear , and the areas that had a thin layer of slush. Also pictured is one of the three different folded pressure ridges we found on the lake, which were all quite beautiful and easy to see today.

No precipitation fell here last night so the conditions reported yesterday should be similar.
