Hello All,
I skated on Keiser pond this am. This was beautiful black ice yesterday but was snowed and rained on overnight. It now is a fine orange peel or slightly smoother. It was 26 degrees when I arrived. This ice is basically 2 inches or a little less. The thinnest areas were the north shore and west shore where it was between 1.75 to just below 2 inches. As the sun came out this morning and the temp warmed the whole lake became reactive, but especially theses areas with lots of fishbone cracking by about 10 am. The temp will be upper teens to around 20 tonight but this ice is still very thin so if you are not comfortable or do not have the gear or experience with thin ice you may want to pass. Please note there is a big plunge hole on the north shore. This was created on purpose but should be avoided as the ice about 20 or 30 feet around it is weakened and the hole itself will just be skimmed. It should be easy to spot and avoid.
