Connecticut River, Bradford to Orford, 1-27-22

I launched from Memorial Park on the Waits River in Bradford, skated to Orford boat launch and back today. Ice was fully obscured by 1/2" of skateable snow. Crappy styrofoam and slushy sidewalks getting out to the CT, but surprisingly good skating once on the main river. I mostly followed old skate tracks, hugging the inside of river bends. No open water or major hazards sighted (except for hidden shell ice and skate-grabbing cracks). Shell ice is mostly on or near sidewalks. Helmet, knee pads and poles are highly recommended. Poles especially helpful on the short bit of Waits River.

I was wondering if anyone has any updated info on Lake Massabesic. According to the NWS, it looked like Manchester received less than half an inch of snow. I was wondering if anyone visited the lake today and can describe the current snow cover. I am considering heading down Thursday afternoon and trying to get in one more day on the wild ice before the big snow closes us in for a while. Any info is appreciated. I am also wondering if anyone else is planning to skate there Thursday.
