At 5°F and gusts of wind at 10 to 12 mph Willoughby was short of ideal. Still fun. I climbed down from the Devils rock parking spot. I expected zero friends on the lake. A pleasant surprise to see Emma and Eloise striding into the wind heading north from the chunky Southend.
The ice was not consistent enough on the surface to relax in a stride.Still fun.
The entire lake seems extremely solid with mostly 6 inches of ice. Last year taught me to be careful of the current that comes from the Brook by Willoughby Lake store. So I am careful when I start from the boat launch.
The entire north end is covered with 1 1/2 inches of new snow. The wind as it approaches the south end accelerates through the gap. that wind has clears polished much of the ice. Sad that the ice was already bumpy.
Fun skating if you have a passion for this geologic wonder
