A group of us skated the north part of Mascoma (Enfield, NH) at sunrise. We found strong black ice throughout, with the exception of one large wind hole (easy to spot) that was skimmed with frost feathers.

If you get a chance to get out there today, you should! This is probably a one-day window before the snow tomorrow.

Hello Krista
My friend Alden and I considered Mascoma, but it’s a bit of a drive in the wrong direction.
I’ve never been there, but it looks like it’s maybe 4 miles long.Just wondering what percentage of the Lake you feel is good to skate on?
Meaning is only half of it fully frozen
We may just go to mirror Lake and check out Wentworth after today

But Mascoma  does look beautiful and we’ve never been there

Judy,

The northern portion of the lake (north of the Main Street bridge) is skatable. I don't know the exact percentage, but looking at a map, the area north of the bridge seems like maybe 1/3 of the total lake area, which is still quite large.
