Reporting back belatedly on two very nice skates on Miller Pond in Strafford VT, both over the weekend. Skating access is easy via the public beach near the pin on attached map.
First picture with the group on the darker ice is from Saturday, December 23 in the afternoon. Temperature was around 30°F. Very thick ice throughout the pond; never measured less than 4 inches despite changing surfaces. Some very smooth black ice and some white ice with quite a bit more orange peel. A few ice fishing groups so some small tip-up holes but nothing too treacherous. Every part of the pond except for the outflow in the far corner was in good shape.
Second picture with just one skater is from Sunday, December 24 around midday. Temperature was around 34°F. A tiny bit more slush thanks to slightly increased temps, but still extremely skateable. Less visibility on the black ice half of the pond, but no less smooth glide. Measurements on various parts of the pond were still all over 4 inches. Another couple ice fishing groups but otherwise we had the pond to ourselves.
Cheers,
