Chi gave some great quick reports to the list but I thought I'd flesh them out a little bit.  Shelburne Pond, Lake Iroquois and Colchester Pond all had incredibly smooth surfaces with no snow on top of the ice, no pressure ridges, and no bumpy areas except for the access at Shelburne Pond.

Shelburne was probably the thickest ice of the three but in the southeast quadrant was a thin area. Those of you who skate there regularly will recognize that this is always the last part to freeze.

Lake Iroquois was the only place that had no thin areas (that we found). Access is best from the boat launch.

Colchester Pond was the only place that had some open water. It's easily visible toward the north end of the lake. It's the only body of water that we didn't fully circumnavigate so it's possible there are some other hazards.

Thanks to everyone for all the great (and not so great) reports. Keep 'em coming.

When I did my last lap around Iroquois this afternoon I noticed a wind hole in the southern part of the lake, west of the bird poop rock. It was easy to see from the north but tricky to see from the south. Be careful in that area tomorrow in case it skims overnight. Otherwise Iroquois is spectacular!
