Keiser Pond in Danville was the only larger pond that I found that had pretty much completely held onto its old ice, probably due to its protected location. I tested the ice from the fish and wildlife parking area on Harvey’s Hollow Road and it was approaching 3 inches thick. It appears that pretty much all of the pond is old ice with just the inlet ,outlet and  few areas near shore that were newly formed 1/2 skim ice identifiable by the large grain crystal structure. the ice was a very very fine orange peel ice, excellent quality. This pond should be great skating for the weekend.it is 33 acres in size and quite lovely.located at the junction of Keiser pond rd and Harvey’s hollow rd.in Danville vt

Foster Pond will see 4 of us today at 11:30am. A lot like Keiser but 65 acres and a bit more remote.

I skated Keiser early this morning, it was at least 4 inches thick, and even the newly formed ice on the edges was supportable at about one and three-quarter inches. If folks come up to Skate this tomorrow, both ewell pond and martins (it sometimes shows up as mud pond on Google maps )pond in Peacham should be good to skate tomorrow as well, they both had supportable ice at one and a half to one and three-quarters inches early this morning and with excellent ice building conditions predicted assuming they were most likely be 2 1/4 inches at least by tomorrow morning. Obviously, check the depth and wear safety gear.
Having all three of these ponds available, will make the drive more worth it for folks coming from a distance.

I haven’t been able to get out yet this year, and this report is very tempting since I’m close to Danville. If anyone else is interested in hitting Keiser tomorrow morning and also needs a second for safety, please let me know! I need to be heading back home by 11am.

Many thanks to everyone who is sharing ice reports. It is very generous.

Nick
