I walked out to the center of Lake Morey today from the fish and wildlife launch on the western shore.
I could not get through with my pole at all, giving up after six hard pokes. Stabs, really.
Lots of very nice orange peel, looking a lot like the picture of Willoughby below, also some bumpier orange peel. A number of bird or turkey? tracks the likes of which I've never seen before in such numbers, will try to attach a picture of
the tracks.
A little sandwich ice at the very beginning getting on but that should be over by tomorrow.
It looked good in both directions as far as the eye could see, thick gray ice with lighter gray ice in the center that was also very solid. Of course you should test yourself as I'm only reporting on where I was. There is no formal trail and
no evidence, yet, of motorized vehicles.
The usual Open Water just south of the western launch.
It would be easy to get on near the Lake Morey Resort also.
Happy skating,
Jo
