Hi ice friends,
I’ve just relaunched my ice atlas:
https://catamounthardware.com/blog/23-11-15-relaunch-of-the-ice-atlas/
https://catamounthardware.com/atlas/
It's an atlas for real now, with maps on every page. I've added launches and parking (and even a couple of restaurants!), useful links, lots of information, and of course photos and videos.
For now it only covers ice in Vermont and New Hampshire, and just under two dozen spots to start with, but I'll be expanding it steadily. Maine and New York will be along, I'll be adding more detail to the existing entries, and I'll be adding features like being able to see the latest satellite images right in the atlas.
Please take a look and let me know what you think. This is something I’m building for our community — to make it easier for us to share information, for new people to get started, for experienced people to learn more, to provide tools that everyone can use to find ice and get out as much as the weather allows.
It’s intentionally not about ice safety. Learning how to get on the ice safely and what to do if something goes wrong are things you should be learning from the experts. If you’re on these mailing lists, you’ve got the right start for that.
In my introductory blog post I explain some of the most interesting features of the new site, and I’ve included how-to videos to show you how to use it:
- How to get information about a place:

- How to search for places and other content:

- How to get directions to launches and parking:

I hope you find it helpful, and please don’t hesitate to let me know how I can make it better and more useful.
Chris
PS: I’m never quite sure the best way to send one message to multiple email groups. Apologies if I’ve done it wrong. If anyone has any tips on that, let me know!
