Skated Wrightsville Reservoir (north of Montpelier) this morning and it was gorgeous. Large smooth plates of grey ice and new black ice about 2” thick.
The hardest part is getting out onto the ice as the water level dropped about 10’ and left thick ice all along the sloping shore but we broke a trail down by the dam (where there is also plenty of parking). I’d recommend bringing spikes.
Once out there it’s very cool to see all the ice hanging from the trees where the water level dropped. Somewhat nerve wracking to be hearing ice shattering all around on the shore.
But definitely worth checking out if you are in the Montpelier area.
