As someone who is pretty new to this form of expeditionary travel, I have found the sentinel links that Kevin Boyle has posted in the past to be especially helpful for trying to learn about where ice may be. It was not easy at first, but it really helped me deepen my understanding of how my own experience of the weather relates to ice and snow formation.

To directly answer your question I don’t think there is any ice worth skating on in central Vermont. Too much snow and not enough wind. further north and east is in a spot of less snow and more cold and wind. when it’s cold enough the champagne freezes over. Maybe that will occur this weekend or maybe mallets Bay will be trashed by Snow falling on wet ice. I continue to be surprised by what happens in real life, and how it differs from my expectations though. A good lesson.

All,

Unfortunately, I need to be in Stowe this weekend. How's the skating around that area (i.e. waterbury resevoir? anything else?). I plan to bring other winter sports gear with me to be flexible.

Thank you!
Chi

I swung by Waterbury Reservoir the other day on my way up to Malletts and it was completely snow covered, sadly.
