We put in at Georgeville Quebec this morning and skated most of the narrow section of the lake down to the US border and up isle lords. About 30 miles in all. It was mostly good Skating, textured Ice varying grades of orange peel. There are also some bumpy sections and some sections of heavily scalloped black ice that we had to double poll through. But the majority of it was good Skating although not pristine. They must have gotten some snow at the end of the last thaw which created the orange peel texture, there was no perfectly smooth ice anywhere. The ice was thick and solid at least 10 inches everywhere We could see through cracks. We were mostly on resurfaced black ice. with some snow ice at the very south and north end of our Skate. No major hazards besides a few pressure ridges, and some melted out shorelines. Probably not the smoothest ice around, but absolutely incredible scenery, and vibe.
