Best. Sunset. Skate. Ever!

Get it while you can, folks, there is new ice out there that is both stable and glass-like. We parked at "the Frame," walked out a bit with ice spikes, then pole skated  our way to the north lighthouse. From there, you can skate on some older ice to the newer stuff.

We spent a lot of time in the crescent area near Rock Point/North Beach. Then we saw a whole crew of skaters coming around Rock Point itself (Shout out to Chi and Kitty.) So we just had to check that out too. Once in a lifetime stuff, folks. So beautiful!!!

There are too many amazing photos to post. Just get out there today, before the snow flies!

Oops, meant "Sunrise" skate. It was just this morning. (Too bad I can't edit posted messages.)

Not sure if anyone is out on the broad lake, but the plate is lose again and drifting North.  The water lead is opening wide again in Charlotte ( just like a few days ago when we had to get rescued). Anyone on it, better get off the broad lake asap.
Ps- I am not on the ice but can see it happening from shore.

Just to add that you can skate from Oakledge Park all the way around Rock Point and to the end of Appletree Point (and back, of course). There is a bit of water around Little Eagle Bay in Appletree Bay alongside Rock Point, but it is easily avoidable. There is wonderful ice on plates off Oakledge/Hula, though you may have to navigate between rubble, and then wonderful ice on North Beach. Leddy/Appletree is outstanding throughout!

There are several skaters still out on the broad lake. Their cars are still parked at Charlotte town beach.
Skaters, if you find yourselves getting off the ice in a random spot in Charlotte and need a ride back to the beach, reach out. I may be able to help.

As of 11:50, there is a gap of wide open water straight out from the beach. But just to the north, toward Hills Point, the plates may be touching and crossable. But this will clearly be changing, as the plate is visibly shifting northward.

I will add to this report that Kitty, Daniel and I made it south through the rubble to the old oil terminal off Oakledge. There were more paths we could have followed to Shelburne Bay. Quite fun navigating the rubble lanes. If conditions aren’t terrible, I am tempted to return Monday. This would be terribly difficult and potentially unsafe if snow doesn’t blow off and instead drifts into the labyrinth.

Photos by Kitty.
