Sorry about the shortest (one word!) report I've ever sent. My hands were so cold and it was so late in the day I knew whom my very limited audience would be.
Here is a pic of the highest quality ice.
Very thick everywhere, didn't attempt to get through. A very small amount of sandwich ice that held my weight and made that slight wrinkling sound, will be 100% solid tomorrow.
From the state boat launch heading right (southwest), lots of nice smooth ice esp towards the center; the further you go becomes more orange peel or smooth under light skateable snow cover.
Turning left from the boat launch (northeast) leads to better and more clear ice. The usual pressure ridge wasn't there.
The biggest nuisance are ATV, foot and fishing sled tracks, many of which can be avoided but not all. They contained the only skim ice I encountered. There will be more and more of these tracks until the lake becomes almost unskateable, that's the "sports
cycle" of this lake and community, so if inclined go sooner in the season rather than later.
