With low expectations I swung by Indian Brook Reservoir in Essex this morning and was pleasantly surprised by five inches of gray ice. There were some bumpy sections but overall it was a really nice skate. This report is probably moot since the snow is falling but the good news is that usually at this point in the year, there are deep depressions from anglers walking on the ice when it's soft and that wasn't the case.

That's nice to hear Phyl! I'm really hoping that other places here in Chittenden county are in that sweet spot where they're open water now but will freeze by this weekend. Colchester or Shelburne ponds seem like likely candidates. I drove past Cedar Lake/Monkton Pond yesterday and it was entirely snow-covered even before the storm. Guessing it was a similar situation at Lake Iroquois, but I forgot to swing by on my way home.

Did you happen to swing by Colchester pond? I know it is a tad lower than Indian Brook.
