My view shows the area from Split Rock to Whallons Bay and Essex to Charlotte to be still frozen. This makes for almost three solid nights of freezing in this area. There are large areas that only had 2 nights. They appear with less frost/snow cover.

I just got a report from friends who live on high elevation out on Willsboro Point that last night’s winds did not break up the ice on the broad lake.
They said that middle of the lake is still open and steaming. That means that large areas of the broad lake have had 2 nights of freezing.
However, we will be experiencing higher winds mid day today. 🤞🤞🤞

If anyone has more intel, satellite images, etc, please let everyone know…
If anyone ventures out exploring in these dangerous conditions be very careful as it’s all very new ice and high winds are our nemesis.
Thank you,
Tom d

Addendum: the high winds today will be from the North so it is very important to always consider where you might be in relation to on-ice versus off-ice wind conditions.

There was a satellite image yesterday afternoon, unfortunately there was enough clouds over the lake that it was hard to tell where the new ice was. On the Broad lake . I'm wondering if anybody has a view from the Fort Kent area. It has been established from other views that there is a patch of water open in the middle of the broad Lake, but I am curious about how close open water is to the New York Shore from Fort Kent to ausable point Area. Reports from later in the afternoon will be particularly valuable because the wind will be dying down and it will be a better assessment of what survived or not.

There is extremely high north wind off Westport. Somme white out squalls. RealFeel temp is -8.

High winds and snow squalls in Essex/Charlotte.
Hard to see through them.
Supposed to continue till dark…

There is open water with white caps just off of ausable point campground. Kevin and I are on Willsboro point and have found a quite large plate of smooth black ice. That’s 3 inches thick. The wind is ferocious. It looks like it extends quite a ways north from Willsboro point close to the New York shore, and also extends south towards the Boquet river.
