An ice fisher saw me checking & gallantly offered to take me out in his 4-wheeler to get a good look. I didn’t have my blades. He stopped a couple of places so I could swoosh my feet. It is much nicer than it looks!
White ice, no shell that I came across, rough places where people had walked or driven, but easy to see & avoid
Drain holes
Gentle Orange peel
Threaded smooth aisles
Most skateable
Not pristine
But endless
All looks the same from LG village along 9L to Ft Ann Beach. I expect the whole lake is like this- access anywhere you can.
Tomorrow could be unpleasant wind but Sunday looks fairly calm (but who knows)
(I hope this makes it out to the Adk group. I keep messing that up. My phone takes control)
Cathy

That was good intel, Cathy, thank you--I took you up on it with a 10-mile RT skate from the Village this morning. the first mile out (and back) was not too fun due to so many frozen tracks—and the winds outta north of course slowed thet first leg, but had a nice glide back. There was no standing water and not much crackle and the ice fishermen assured me it was 18-20” all the way across. Hope to get on again Sunday, unless reports from up North beckon. As Dan says, get it while you can!
here’s a couple pics and my track

Lake George was really fun today. Thanks Cathy!I went from Hague Beach to Bolton. Not too bad surface. It was very nice to have a pair of poles to get through rough stuff.<47900E66-D8B5-4656-BD1E-4D0F45BC1755.png>
