Shelburne Bay off Red Rocks and Burlington up to breakwater look like smooth grey ice, and skimming beyond the breakwater. I did not poke just driving through.

The bottom of Shelburne Bay has smoothed up significantly over the weekend as well.   It is not smooth black ice, but large plates of snow ice with numerous bumps and refrozen cracks.  That being said, it does look navigable on skates.   A wingsailor on skis was out over the weekend and appeared to have a great time.  This morning three trucks drove out on the Southern end of the bay from the fishing access, the first vehicles I've seen on Shelburne Bay this year (in several years, in fact) although I do NOT recommend driving a vehicle on Shelburne Bay.

The Bay is frozen all the way out to Shelburne Point and Redrocks, I could not see any open water from the South end in the Bay.   I have not scouted it yet, I'm hoping to skate it this evening after work.   Note that the lower 1/3 locked up about 2 weeks earlier than the upper 2/3, so the conditions in the Northern portion may be very different than the Southern third.

Based on the photos of the ice near Burlington and Button Bay, I would not recommend travelling far for this ice, the overall surface quality in those photos appears far better.  But if you are in Shelburne and want a quick fix, it looks like it can now be had on Shelburne Bay.

Solidly, frozen wall-to-wall. The skating is absolutely delightful and fairly consistent. Easy access from the north side of Shelburne Bay at Queen City Park and the entire Bay is fun skating. I did not venture out past red rocks point.

Yiota, are you going out there tomorrow morning? It’s supposed to be below freezing until noon. Then mixed precipitation. So morning is when to go.

I skated the Southern end of the bay today after work.   I ran into 2 other skaters.   There are some nice lanes and a few small plates, but lots of bumps and ridges in between.   Seems like at least 9" of ice in the Southern end of the bay, based on probing through some skimmed over ice fishing holes.   Its not the best I've skated, but its the best ice we have had on Shelburne Bay in several years.

I'm told the broad lake locked up again last night.   This must be a record for how many times it has frozen over and broken up in one season.
