I have heard Joe’s Pond was not only safe, but nice skating today.
I would like to skate there from 8:30-10:30 am Monday morning, but that means leaving the Burlington area at 7:00am. The early start is a bit of a drag, but needing to get back by noon dictates that. Does anyone want to join me? Let me know, and I will be there. Otherwise I am not getting up and driving all that way to skate alone.

We drove by Joe’s Pond on our way up to Burke this morning. LOTS of open water so I would make sure if going there that Exact safe areas and access is thoroughly disclosed

The main body of the lake access from the Fish and wildlife parking off of rot 2 as mentioned in previous posts is generally ranging from 4 to 5 inches, with some open water near Shore off of points. One pressure Ridge which is only active near Shore on the east side of the lake has some open water around it easily visible to the trained eye .The area that Jeff saw with open water is after the Narrows As Joes pond heads towards the dam. This area is shallow with current and has weak ice all winter long. There are probably no bodies of water except for tiny ponds without some open water somewhere given our freeze thaw pattern. Molly’s Falls reservoir is a bit bigger than Joe’s pond and has consistently slightly better ice.

Is anyone heading out to Molly’s Falls Resevoir tomorrow? If I go, I need to be there by 8:30 to get a good skate in before leaving by 10:30. If I hear from anyone, I will get up and go in the morning. Otherwise I have plenty which needs getting done here. I won’t go alone. I have all the safety gear, and am well experienced at testing ice and skating. But that one rule about the buddy system will make my go/no go decision.
