The weather couldn't have been better and the ice, especially away from shore, was mostly smooth black ice
with lots of interesting patterns. We followed pretty much Jamie's track from Tuesday's trip but we extended it
somewhat and made 23 miles. The only real hazards are the obvious open water at an inlet up at the north end (this is west of the
State Park) but more importantly, several of the pressure ridges that we encountered. One of the trickiest pressure ridges was
right near the start of our trip at Nason Beach. Because we had dry suits, it didn't bother us to step through water that went up
onto our boots (3-4 inches). Having testing poles was also key for crossing these ridges.
Stay away from southern end where snow and rubble abound. We saw someone riding a bike through it happily!
There were lots of people out, mostly not nordic skaters, though, and mostly up at the State Park.
Frye's leap is worth going to. It was a nice place for a snack break. It just requires crossing some rubble.

ps There are nice views of Mt. Washington and other mountains to the west.
