I enjoyed 4-inch ice on Foster Pond in Peacham yesterday. 1/2-inch of water on top only served to make the blade-touch quiet. Inlet to the northwest, outlet to the southeast are open, and 6 small areas deserve caution along the shore where springs enter. Magical windless outing.

Road and Fish & Game access were free of snow, just a bit slippery. AWD was a comforting friend.

Ken,

Thanks for this report, much appreciated.

We had hoped to make it to Foster Pond but ran out of time.  After Keiser Pond in Danville, VT, wonderful as reported, some of us circumnavigated Martins Pond (near Foster Pond as you note), on mostly uniform 2" ice (as tested by ice screw).  Thinner plates on part of the northern shore, with visible boundaries and auditory differences if paying close attention which got harder as flurries fell.  Thicker plates closer to the very accessible parking area.  More than 1/4" snow when we left late in the day so not sure what to expect for the foreseeable.

Jo

Whoops, this was actually a report on Martin's Pond, not Foster's Pond, sorry for the mixed-up subject line in the last email.

And thanks for your update earlier today, Ken!

Another quite magical 1.5 hrs with 4-1/2 inch ice …and 1-1/4 inches of powdered sugar snow on Fosters. One curious baby beaver on the ice by the launch who listened intently to our introduction. One round 24-inch open “spring hole” 30 feet out from the Highland Green Camp dock…now marked with a baby balsam and cedar branch.
