Hi Sandra,

I just skated for the 2nd time in my drysuit. I found it very comfortable, and warm, and I didn't feel clammy for the 3 hours I spent skating in it. It's a Gore-Tex suit, and so it's breathable. For me, I'll need to continue to experiment with layers inside of it to determine which ones are the best for which temperatures and conditions. I got just a little overheated for a little bit yesterday, once I slowed down I was fine and the suit still felt great. When I took off the suit I wasn't damp at all.

Good luck in your research!

Though a dry suit ($$) is not on my list of beginner essentials (pfd and pike are), I am curious about breath ability during extended skating outings. Dry suits, like wetsuits are designed to keep water off your skin, not insulate, warm or be breathable.

Once I overheat in a wetsuit (during winter paddling), I get quite chilly as neoprene cannot transfer moisture to the outside.

I have a vision of a dry suit being akin to being sealed in a plastic bread bag and put in the freezer.

Can anyone with experience wearing a dry suit for skating chime in on this?

Thank you
Sandra Owens (B) (B for beginner)
