Hey VTGP members,

This discussion is for anyone to volunteer to give a tutorial on any
topic related to game development tools. I'll be giving the first on
XNA next week. Other topics could include Flash, 3D modeling, 2D
animation, music composition, graphics, modding, map editing, or other
game engines like Unity. Just post a topic you would like to present
and we'll let you talk about it at a meeting. These topics will be a
lot of help to our members and will help us all learn, so we would
greatly appreciate it if you could give a tutorial.

I was hoping to learn more about how to make a side scrolling game. I
have messed around with some basic non moving levels, but I wanted to
learn how to make the objects in the game move as you're moving
through the level. Also, I was interested in learning how to program
basic level structures such as inclines, walls, and elevated
platforms. For instance, if your level had a hill that you could walk
up, how to do let the game know that the hill physically exists at
that point, and not just in your background image?

Most of my questions involve level design, so any information on how
to actually design and program a level would be really helpful.

Those are off the top of my head. If I think of anything else, I'll
post it here.

I've done a decent amount of flash animating, design, and
programming. I'd have to scrounge up some old files or either build
some new ones... but if you give me a couple of weeks to put something
together, if anyone is interested or has some specific topics of flash
game design they'd like to learn, I'd be down to give a tutorial.
