11:00 AM – 5:00 PM: “Friend of Mine”
Sanctioned constructed tournament (2 rounds + final)
Saturday, February 13th
6:00 PM – Midnight: “Betrayer”
Sanctioned constructed tournament (2 rounds + final)
Sunday, February 14th
1:00 PM – 7:00 PM: “Left for Dead”
Sanctioned constructed tournament (2 rounds + final)
Cost: $15 for two days, $10 for one day. This special rate covers
playing VTES and access to the dealer room.
Prizes: Strategicon offers prize support in the form of dealer dollars
to tournament winners.

Left for Dead tournaments should be listed on the Strategicon website
within the few days. Pre-registration at the special rate is not
currently available.

I will be there with my son (age 11), so won't be able to participate
in any of the tournaments; but maybe on Friday night if people are
interested, we could have a 1 round draft off or something.

people just going for VTES wouldn't have to pay for an extra day.
8:00(ish)-10:00(ish) PM on Sunday would work well with the schedule
(giving a dinner break after the tournament). That time is already
available for free play. It could also be before 1:00 PM on Sunday,
depending on when people are available. (I'm not :-( )
I am coordinating the tournaments with Strategicon. If there is
enough interest in the event (5 people confirmed?), then I can ask
Strategicon to add it to the schedule.

Ah, I didn't notice there wasn't a fourth tournament on the schedule -
only three. You're right that typically the last tournament on Sunday
is less well attended than the others, although sometimes I think it
still helps to have it. Some people might be more attracted to
attend the early Sunday tournament if they know there will also
be a late one.
Be that as it may, consider me interested in doing something in
the late Sunday slot in preference to nothing. I'd prefer
constructed but if a limited tournament is what's going on,
that's what I'm doing...

Sounds good. I won't be there unfortunately on Sunday (leaving at
like 7am on Sunday morning). I can give you product and get leftovers
and payment from you later. But would like a straw poll of how many
folks would be there...

You may be right about that, Fred. I decided to do only one
tournament on Sunday for several reasons. At last year's Left for
Dead, Mike didn't start the first Sunday tournament until I showed up
from my church job because of lack of
players. At the previous Strategicon, there were no Sunday
tournaments because of lack of players.
Robert told me he could help run events, but he's not available on
Sunday, and I can't get there until 1:00 because of my church job.
That already makes three local players who can't make it to a Sunday
morning tournament: me, Robert, and Cameron.
Since this is not a qualifying event and there is a qualifying event
in Las Vegas the week afterward, I kind of expect a more local crowd,
maybe wrongly. Having two tournaments on Sunday seems designed to
entice more people who aren't local. I hope they come, of course,
(including you!) but this schedule seems realistic to me.
There will be four tournaments over two days when LA has its
qualifying events, AFAIK.

draft thing during the same time, like from 8:00-10:30 for those who
are available. Drafts take 2 1/2 hours, right? That's kind of early,
but at least you might be able to be there.

Dead is tomorrow. I just got this e-mail:
Hey all, just wanted to let you all know that the registration
deadline for the hotel is TOMORROW!!!! (as in Friday, January 29, 2010
AD) The room rate is $109 per night and includes free parking for one
vehicle.
So you can pile 435 of your friends into one car and then into one
room and stay for less than a dollar a night!! Ok, that isn't
realistic. Let's face it, it is hard to fit more than 20 or 30 people
into a room. But just by adding a couple of friends your cost goes way
way way down.
Beyond the simple convienience of staying in the same place that you
will be gaming all weekend there is the added bonus of making sure
that you can get into all of your fun late night events (starting as
late as 1 am) as well as all of the early morning events (many events
start at 8 am).

So I never quite understood what was the end result of the draft
thing. Is the Saturday morning 11 AM tournament still a constructed
tournament? You mentioned running a draft from 8 to 10:30 AM,
which doesn't seem useful unless you're playing the actual draft
games at another time. (I don't really care; I'm just making sure it
didn't alter plans to play constructed at 11 AM.)

We had discussed the possibility of having a one-game draft of Heirs
to the Blood on Saturday morning before the tournament, since that is
the only time Chris could also be in attendance.

We will have the opportunity for an Heirs to the Blood draft game on
Sunday evening (not Saturday morning!), dependent on interest.
For the price of $10 participants will receive one HttB starter deck
and two HttB booster packs. This is a good chance to test out the new
set and experience some draft fun.

everyone, the draft game will not be a tournament, just one, or
possibly two, casual games. Chris will bring the cards and if we have
enough interested players, we'll play a draft; if not, I'll return the
unopened cards to Chris.
