Hello VT Farm & Forest Leaders!
I would love some input from any/all of you....
What are your best tips and tricks for supporting a student with impulse control struggles? Our policy has always been that we can't accept students that need one on one attention/support more than 50% of the time. But of course, the farm and forest school world invites big energy students into the outdoor environment. On a personal and professional level, I continually struggle with these super sweet students who really need more support than we can give them while at the same time knowing that being in the outdoors is super therapeutic for them. FYI-they standard tactics like, give them a job, make them a leader, take a stop and think/reset, redirecting, connecting to passions DOES NOT do the trick for our high ADHD/ Lack of Impulse Control.

Do you/have you simply decided that after many tries that your program is not a good fit for this type of student? Do you find a volunteer elder to support them?

I look forward to hearing of any advice you may have to offer. Many thanks!!!!
