? about Department of Taxes requirement to collect gender

Our payroll software (Wave) is now requiring us to collect gender for all employees before we can run payroll. Unfortunately, the only options are Male or Female. Wave is saying that this is now a requirement for VT's Dept of Taxes, but I don't see this on any Dept of Taxes forms. I'm curious if anyone else is encountering this?
And we're also going to switch to a new payroll software. Any suggestions? Gusto seems to be a popular one. We'd like something that has timesheets integrated into the platform.

Sorry for any panic I might have caused. This seems to be a Wave only issue (I would not recommend Wave to anyone else). They recently updated their platform, which crashed the system. There have been a lot of errors in the new system and I'm assuming that the Gender requirement is a similarly a Wave problem. Thanks to everyone who reached out with help and suggestions for other platforms (we'll be switching to Gusto at the end of summer camps).
