JOB SUMMARY:

Software Engineers with new projects and system definitions. Installs operating system patches, software upgrades, software installations, and modifications of various systems. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures server performance and optimization; ensures server patching and upgrades are kept current

Writes and modifies perl or other language scripts for automation and problem alerting, manage CRON jobs

Supports new and existing applications and designs, works closely with software development team members

Troubleshoots and resolves complex technical problems

Participates in shared on-call responsibilities, includes periodic overnight or weekend work as necessary

Assists and mentors junior system administrators

Provides knowledge to peers, project team members, and consultants as needed

Assists system architects with computing infrastructure design and technical direction

Ensures consistency and synchronization across server platforms and other integrated infrastructure components

Assists IT managers and senior management with planning and reporting

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Four-year college degree or equivalent in computer science plus a minimum of six-years experience with diverse operating systems, primarily UNIX and Windows

Must be certified in UNIX, LINUX, and IAX and Windows operating systems administration

Must also be VMware vShere4 or greater certified, or have worked with OVM systems

Proficient with Oracle WebLogic and Oracle database 10gi and greater, Knowledge of SQL a plus

Proficient with Linux OS, HP-UX and HP platforms and IBM AIX OS and IBM platforms including LPARS

Experienced with diverse security and Anti-Virus tools

Experienced with tape libraries, backup applications (Netbackup, Tivoli)

Experienced with network gear, configuring load balancers, and network-attached storage/direct-attached storage technologies

Must be able to design, deploy, install, configure and maintain in-house and deployed UNIX-based and Windows based server systems

Requires excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact well with people at all levels of management

Periodic domestic and international travel required
