Vivekananda Study Circle IISc is celebrating the occasion of the National Youth Day 2014 commemorating Swami Vivekananda's birthday with a number of events at IISc from 13th Jan - 17th Jan. 

The events are listed below. 

13th Jan:  Cultural Program by Viveka Hamsa group.

                Title: "A musical presentation on the life of Swami Vivekananda"

                 Venue: Choksi Hall
                 
                 Timing: 6:00-7.30 PM
              

16th Jan:  Talk by Dr. Ravindra

                 Title: "Education and Culture in the Light of Swami Vivekananda (Neuroscience Perspective)"

                 Venue: Choksi Hall

                 Timing: 6:00-7:30 PM


17th Jan:  Talk by Rajiv Malhotra. 

                  Title: " Our Vivekananda - our Youth Icon! What are we doing? How do we decolonize our Minds?"
 
                   Venue: Choksi Hall

                   Timing: 6-7.30 PM,

Tea and Coffee will be available at the venue from 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the events. Book stalls with books from Ramakrishna Math will be set up near Choksi Hall on all three days during the events.

All are invited. 


Biographies:

1. Vivekahamsa: Vivekahamsa is a Bengaluru based organization inspired by Swami Purshottamanandaji Maharaj, a senior monk of Ramakrishna Order that aims at moulding individuals to be good human beings. It is administered by the devotees of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Sri Sharada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. The messages of the Holy trio are passed on to the society through various initiatives of Vivekahamsa. It comprises of around 100 volunteers (men and women) who dedicate themselves in organizing various socio-beneficial activities.

2. Dr. P.N. Ravindra (MD, PhD):

Dr. P.N. Ravindra is a medical neuroscientist with special experience in teaching, research and clinical application in the area of mindfulness practices. His core area of work is in sleep and sleep disorders. He has collaborative research work with NIMHANS, University of Toulouse France and University of San Diego. He conducts seminars/workshops on mindfulness. He has been conferred with National Young Best Investigator award conferred by Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India. He volunteers for Ramakrishna Ashram and was also honorary visiting fellow at Swami Vivekananda Centre, Karnatak University, Dharwad.


3. Rajiv Malhotra : 

Rajiv Malhotra is a US based researcher and author on the subject of Indian civilization and its place in the world, especially as seen through the lenses of history, politics, religion and philosophy. Prior to this, he was in IT and telecom industries where he held positions as corporate executive, management consultant, and finally as entrepreneur owning companies in over 20 countries. He took early retirement in 1995 at age 44 and established Infinity Foundation in Princeton, USA, which is a think tank focused on the representation of Indian civilization in academics, media, education and public affairs. He has authored the following three books recently:

(1) Breaking India (Amaryllis, 2011)
(2) Being Different (Harpercollins, 2011)
(3) Indra's Net (Harpercollins, 2014)

Additionally, he has been the principle protagonist in several other books, and is actively blogging on Huffington Post among other forums. He has a prominent present in social media, and he frequently goes on lecture tours of USA and India. For details see: www.RajivMalhotra.com.
