Global Voices from Venezuela, the US, Africa & across Latin America to join June 4 Rally for Venezuela

Hello ,

I am delighted to be able to give details of the (pictured above) Venezuelan, Latin American & international guests at our major Rally for Venezuela on June 4 (invite your friends & reserve your place), namely:

  • Rafael Chacon from Venezuela: National representative of the CBST (Venezuelan TUC equivalent) & leader in Venezuela's progressive student & teachers' movements for over 30 years.
  • Mark Weisbrot from the US: Co-director of the Centre for Economic and Policy Research in Washington DC & president of Just Foreign Policy.  He also wrote the screenplay for Oliver Stone's South of the Border. You can read a selection of his Guardian articles here
  • Medea Benjamin from the US: Co-founder of the human rights group Global Exchange & the women-led peace group CODEPINK. She was recently in Panama at the people's forum at the OAS Summit, pushing the US  to end the blockade of Cuba & respect Venezuela's sovereignty.
  • Alicia Castro from Argentina: Alicia Castro was appointed ambassador to the UK in 2012 & was previously ambassador to Venezuela in 2006. She entered politics through the trade union movement & was elected to the Argentine Chamber of Deputies in 1997.
  • Roberto Calzadilla from Bolivia: The Ambassador was General Director of Bolivia’s Bilateral Relations( 2006-7) offering "a panorama of Bolivia’s relations across the globe,” saying “I was honoured to work closely with our President, a great politician [who is] transforming the country.”
  •  Guisell Morales Echaverry from Nicaragua: Recently appointed ambassador to the UK, where she was previously Charge D'Affaires. Guisell will convey the amazing solidarity Nicaragua & Venezuela have given to each other in recent years.
  • Explo Nani-Kofi from Ghana: Explo has coordinated the Campaign Against Proxy War in Africa & the IMF-World Bank Wanted For Fraud Campaign. He is Director of the Kilombo Centre for Civil Society.
  • Marcos Garcia from Venezuela: First Secretary at the Venezuelan Embassy, he previously worked as Second Secretary in Labor Affairs in Washington DC. A transport union leader in Venezuela, he served as adviser to the Minister of Labour in the Committee for Occupied Factories.
