Dear all,

Yesterday in study circle, we decided to start working on preparing a newsletter like collection of a few articles related to Swami ji, his philosophy and teachings. The plan is to circulate the  newsletter among all the students of IISc -- via IISc group mail or printed version distributed in messes.

For the first edition, which was decided to be four A4 pages, we need to collect the ideas for articles and then distribute the work of preparing them.

Here are a few initial suggestions, everybody is welcome to work together over the list to come up with a final content.

1) Tale or parable from Swami ji's life -- may also include an image
2) Women empowerment
3) The education India needs
4) On India --  possibly an article that says what he liked about India and what he did not like about Indians (at that time)
5) About the kind of Institutions India needs (including how he influenced the starting of IISc)

Some excerpts from books that are related to discipline (specially) in youth life

1) Secret of concentration
2) Will power and its development
3) Personality development / What is Real personality
4) How to build Character

Everyone, let us join together to come up with more ideas and suggestions and realize this plan.

Thanks
Anshuman

A few more suggestions ---

1) an article by Gomu sir (either about Tenets of Hinduism or whatever he is pleased to convey) - very important
2) a poem -- We have a collection of poems written by Shivendra Sir (Pantnagar)

namaste,
We can also include the following
1. A short article on  unsung heroes  and the models that they have generated.
2. One sholka and its meaning (on science / spirituality)

With regards,
Sonal

1) About selfless service to the needy; giving back to society
2) Simple living (in the context of environmental sustainability). I am not sure if Swamiji has made direct reference to living in harmony with nature, but if we can find such elements in his discourses, it would be great.

sorry for delay in joining the discussion....since i have taken part in few 'booklet' or 'magazine' making and distribution, i can share some experiences....nothing much novel, others would also know...even then...

for eg, if u r making it regular, it is important to properly space it out....maybe once in 4 months.......too short a frequency would take up time for the few who would be actively part of it, and it'd also become 'routine'.....

and, dont misunderstand, but 'too much of a preaching attitude' bugs many in iisc. we have to steer clear of that.

and something in it should be 'funny'. thatz not difficult. a lot of swamiji's comments and jibes even in the most serious topics such as India, can be both funny as well as instructive (i remember reading sometime back, he writes to ms.mcleod that 'india is like an immovable lump of flesh like a jellyfish....something has to be done for india....'

@Sonal, Vignesh, Anirban:     Thanks for the useful inputs.

I agree with Anirban that IISc people do not appreciate "too much preaching attitude".
We should be very clear about this while preparing the content.

The aim of this initiative, as I see it, is to make people aware that even on so called "spiritual" topics (that people may not be interested in) ,
Swami Ji's thoughts are quite logical and practical.

Let us come up with more ideas before we start finalizing the content of the first draft.

Thanks
Anshuman

This size is probably smaller than planned (two A4 pages), but perhaps can be put together quickly...
